Reviving Tradition: KYDO's Innovative Design for JIA Headquarters Taipei

Blending East and West: A Modern Interpretation of Traditional Chinese Architecture

Discover how KYDO has transformed the JIA Headquarters in Taipei, creating a modern workspace that pays homage to traditional Chinese residential architecture. This innovative design has been recognized with a prestigious Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017.

The design inspiration for the JIA Headquarters in Taipei came from the traditional Chinese concept of a Siheyuan, or courtyard house. KYDO, the design team behind this innovative project, sought to translate these traditional concepts into a modern workspace. The result is a series of layered spaces, each one revealed in sequence, much like the rooms of a traditional courtyard house.

What sets this design apart is its balance between function and brand, East and West. JIA, a tableware brand that reinterprets Chinese craftsmanship with modern typologies, is brought to life in this space. The interior is divided into three zones, each surrounding one side of a metaphorical courtyard. This layout echoes the rhythm of traditional Siheyuan architecture, with alternating layers of closed and open spaces.

The realization of this design was a feat of creative ingenuity. Despite a tight budget and schedule, the design team managed to create a space that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The main volume of the interior is devoted to the design and marketing teams, with glass meeting rooms and semi-open office cubes providing a balance between privacy and open discussion. Recycled plywood was used to construct most of the bookshelves, partitions, and doors, adding an intriguing texture to the space.

The design of the JIA Headquarters is a testament to the power of research and the importance of understanding a brand's vision and values. The design team sought to bring JIA to life in this space, creating a tangible reflection of the brand's vision and values. The result is a space that not only functions as a workspace but also serves as a modern interpretation of traditional Chinese architecture.

In conclusion, the JIA Headquarters in Taipei is a shining example of innovative design. KYDO has successfully blended traditional Chinese architecture with modern design principles to create a workspace that is functional, aesthetically pleasing, and true to the brand's vision. This project serves as a reminder of the power of design to transform spaces and bring brands to life.
